Want to know how to mix up your running?
This is a new 6 week course, that will take your running focus right up to Christmas.
We’ll focus on a different type of training session each week and show you how to do these yourself. Classes range from intervals and strides, to pacing and hill repeats. The aim is to keep things fun, learn something new and stay motivated with your training throughout winter.
These sessions are for all runners. We will have a couple of different groups doing the same session but working at a level that you are comfortable with.
The programme
All sessions are lead and supported by Scottish Athletics Run Leaders.
We will focus on how to settle your breathing and good techniques to breathe efficiently when you’re running at various paces.
14th Nov: Progression
We will add to this session a focus on good posture and how this is one of the most effective adjustments to improve your running.
21st Nov – Hill Repeats
You can’t run in Edinburgh without encountering a few hills. We’ll show you how to use your arms to help guide you up any elevation.
28th Nov – Strides
A super simple addition to any weekly run and we’ll help you manage your pacing and finding those short bursts of energy.
5th Dec – Intervals
When the speed kicks in, we will show you how to use your legs more powerfully to get some good speed going for that race sprint finish.
12th Dec – Out n’ Back
One of our favourite speed sessions. This will be out final week to put everything you’ve learned together and have a fun run together.

You don’t need a watch but you will get more from these sessions if you have something to track your run.
If you do want to track your progress, download Strava onto your phone and we can help you get set up.
We will only re-arrange Tuesday sessions if it is unsafe to run (for example, very high winds, or when it is very icy). If the weather turns out to be slightly…Scottish… we still run.
Your Run Leader will amend routes if necessary, but we don’t let a little bad weather get in the way of running with each other and reaching our goals.
Paid parking is available in St James Quarter and Q-Park at Omni. Street parking is available at various areas such as Albany Street, Forth Street and Blenheim Place. Usually, parking will be free from 18:30, but please check in advance if you plan to drive.
The nearest bus stops are on York Place and Leith Street. The nearest Tram stop is Picardy Place.
To plan your route, please check Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams for more information.
